The Electoral Commission (EC) has indicated that it will reinstate the Returning Officer for Ablekuma North, Vincent Obeng, to complete the collation of parliamentary results for the constituency.
The EC took the decision following the announcement by Mr. Obeng that he will resign from his position as the returning officer.
He disclosed his intention to resign on January 8, 2025, and asked the EC to find a replacement.
According to Mr. Obeng, the collation of results for Ablekuma North was incomplete, with only three polling stations remaining out of a total of seven. .
He also stated that results from four polling stations had already been successfully collated.
Responding to this, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, said they will bring him back to continue with the work.
“I think it is out of frustration that he is saying what he said, and I understand him, but I don’t think that it is the end of the road; we will get him back.
“I want to put on record that the commission has no interest at all in who becomes the MP, but we should be very careful with the precedent we set. It is the voter who should be their leader, be it presidential or parliamentary,” he added.
