The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has admitted that the large number of National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs in the House poses a challenge to parliamentary proceedings.
However, the Speaker, who is serving his second term after serving as Speaker of the dissolved eight-member parliament, has assured Ghanaians that he will work hard to ensure that parliamentary activities are free of partisanship.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s inauguration.
“I never take anything for granted because the large numbers we have coming from the NDC is also a challenge, and I should be able to get them to focus more on national interests.
“The collective interests of all Ghanaians, whether you are NDC, NPP, PNC, or independent, that is what matters to me, and that will be a challenge.”
