President John Dramani Mahama has requested that the Minister-designate for the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, make determining fair compensation for the families of those who lost their lives during the 2020 and 2024 general elections a priority upon assuming office.
The President made the call while speaking at a special National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, 2025.
He had already instructed the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to, with immediate effect, conduct an investigation into the election-related deaths and prosecute those involved.
In his remarks at the Thanksgiving Service, he said, “We would also ask the Attorney General, when he takes office, to determine a fair and adequate compensation for the families of those who have lost their lives.”
Meanwhile, Parliament’s Appointments Committee will on Monday, January 13, 2025, vet the Minister-designate alongside two other nominees for the Finance and Energy Ministries, respectively.
