The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the Ghanaian public, particularly those in the northern part of the country, that the fuel shortage they are currently experiencing is being resolved.
The NPA said it is addressing the challenge through a multi-pronged approach.
A statement issued by the Authority said it convened a meeting of the Technical Committee on Energy to discuss the situation. The committee identified logistical challenges as the root cause of the issue.
To address the shortage, the NPA has implemented the following measures:
Increased Supply from Kumasi: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been granted special permission to load petrol from the Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi to serve retail outlets in the five regions of the northern part of the country.
Additional Supplies from Tema: OMCs are also being allowed to increase their petrol loads from depots in Tema to augment the supply from Kumasi.
Bolstering Northern Stocks: Arrangements are underway to transport nine million litres of petrol from the Buipe depot to the Bolgatanga depot through the pipeline, further increasing fuel availability in the region.
The statement for their noted that there is no cause for alarm and that the situation is being addressed promptly.
“This three-pronged solution is being implemented concurrently to immediately address the issue.”
