President John Dramani Mahama has advised supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop destroying or looting state properties.
He admonished them to act responsibly and avoid behaviours that could undermine the trust of Ghanaians.
The President underscored the need for them to stop repeating the mistakes of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) when they were in office.
He was responding to recent acts of vandalism and threats by some suspected supporters of the party who stormed state institutions demanding that workers there hand over to them.
Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving at the National Mosque at Kanda in Accra on January 10, 2025, the President said, “I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us.
“Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner.”
“Government is being formed, ministers will be put in place, and other officials will be appointed. And as I said, we will have our full cabinet in 14 days.
“And so we will have ministers in charge. If you have any issues, you consult any of the ministers and have it resolved. So, exercise restraint. Many people have said it is the same thing the NPP said when they came into power in 2017.”
