Child Rights International has warned that asking parents to bear the cost of feeding under the free Senior High School will undermine the policy.
A statement issued on January 11, 2025, by the organisation indicated that there was the need to preserve the integrity of the Free SHS program.
To them, the policy is a transformative initiative that has significantly improved access to education in Ghana since its launch in 2017.
It stated categorically that asking parents to pay for the feeding of their wards under the policy undermines the foundational principles of the Free SHS policy, which was designed to eliminate financial barriers to education and ensure inclusivity for all Ghanaian children.
The statement proposed the review of the policy must focus on addressing its challenges without eroding the foundational benefits that make education accessible to all Ghanaian children.
Below is the statement.
