The former UK ambassador to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, has reacted to the erection of a statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, it is improper for anyone to erect a statue of themselves during one’s lifetime or tenure in office.
He was reacting to the news of the total vandalisation of the statue of former President Akufo-Addo, which was erected in front of Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.
The former president commissioned the statue during his “Thank-You Tour” of the Western Region in November 2024.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on January 13, Mr. Benjamin remarked, “Nobody should ever put up a statue of themselves while still alive, let alone while still in office.”
