Minister-designate for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, says the questions as to whether the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is legal or not are answered in the preamble of the constitution, which requires accountability from our state leaders and officials of state.
He was reacting to a question when he appeared before the Appointments Committee on whether the ORAL Committee was established by President John Dramani Mahama with the aim of empowering the public to report corruption anonymously and securely.
ORAL recently launched a website that seeks to encourage more citizens to participate in the fight against corruption and ensure that public officeholders are held accountable for their actions.
Dr. Dominic Ayine has maintained that Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is not unconstitutional as suggested by some people.
He explained that ORAL is like a whistleblower providing information to the Attorney-General for further action to be taken.
The lecturer told the Committee that ORAL’s key objective is to gather evidence to determine wrongdoing.
“I am not aware OFAL has been conferred with prosecutorial powers. They are gathering information for purposes of determining whether any wrongdoing has taken place…There is nothing wrong with that,” and so I still stand by the position that it is illegal, he noted.
When asked if he will still depend on ORAL for information, he responded, “I will depend on any reliable source of information related to wrongdoing.”.
