Divine Nkrumah, Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has stated that one of former President Akufo-Addo’s cardinal sins was appointing unqualified individuals as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and other positions.
He claimed that the majority of these appointees were inexperienced, unqualified, and lacked the necessary qualifications to hold those positions.
”Many of the DCEs were appointed without qualifications. Many of them began pursuing their first degrees after being appointed. Under Akufo-Addo, appointments to the National Disaster Management Organisation and other positions were made to people without qualifications. These appointments necessitated some level of qualification, but those he (Akufo-Addo) appointed were unqualified. President John Dramani Mahama should avoid the same mistakes.
He said the former president did not only engage in this cardinal sin but also politicised every independent body.
The young politician noted that the NPP’s defeat was also a divine intervention because they went on a rampage in amassing wealth and misappropriating state funds.
He claimed that only Akufo-Addo politicised institutions ranging from the Electoral Commission to the Judiciary, even appointing his family members, children, and friends to key political positions.
‘’They accused President John Dramani Mahama of appointing family and friends in his government, but after we investigated, his direct family members who served were not more than two. But after Nana Addo took over, his family and friends and that of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia were over 120. When Ghanaians complained, they told us their parents educated them and so they deserved to be appointed. The sins committed by Akufo-Addo and his relatives were many, to the point that they nearly turned ECG into PDS so they could appropriate them to themselves.
He has therefore advised the John Mahama-led administration to publish the sins of Akufo-Addo in a textbook to serve as a reminder to our current and future generations of the evils of the previous government.
Divine Nkrumah declared that ”the defeat of NPP was Ghana’s second independence because we went through hell under their incompetent administration, saying,’The defeat of NPP signified freedom and our second independence. Never have we seen a government gag and undermine free speech. Men become women under NPP because they were afraid to talk against the previous government”.
He added that the election of Akufo-Addo was a mistake or an error that should never happen again in our country.
He recounted that Mahama was vilified and described as incompetent, but the era of Akufo-Addo was terrible, and ’so never should we repeat the history to see a president like him again. We should always remember that we saw a president whose rule saw the country move 20 years backwards.
