President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the protracted conflict in Bawku with a peace visit to the Bawku Nab and the Nayiri in Nalerigu.

Speaking at the Zug-raan Palace after a closed-door meeting with Bawku Naba Asigri ABUGRAGO Azoka II on Tuesday, the President urged chiefs, queen mothers, and elders from the Kusaaug traditional area to exercise restraint and cooperate with all stakeholders for lasting peace and development.

“This is a peace-building mission, and I shall also visit NALERIGU to share the same message,” he added.

At Nalerigu, the president informed the Nayiri-Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga that his visit was a follow-up to his campaign visit and the promise to bring peace. He added that a high-level mediation effort to resolve the conflict would resume shortly.

President Mahama announced his administration’s immediate plans to strengthen security leadership by appointing key heads by the close of this week.

“We want to assure you that we are putting in place the various appointments to have ministers and other officials responsible for the security within this week. When these appointments are made, I will charge them to make Bawku one of the top priorities they attend to and deal with,” President Mahama affirmed.

The President’s visit underscores his administration’s resolve to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to address the root causes of the conflict.

The Bawku conflict has spanned decades and remains one of Ghana’s most pressing security and socioeconomic challenges. In both meetings, the president called for patience, restraint, unity, collective effort, and a commitment to dialogue as the government pursues sustainable peace.
