Private security personnel at the underground mine area of Earl International Group Gold Ghana Ltd, a large-scale mining operation, apprehended 23 illegal miners.
The company is situated in Gbane, within the Talensi District.
The apprehended individuals were among over 100 illegal miners who allegedly infiltrated the mine on the midnight of Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Shaft 2, level 2, via illicit mining pits.
They have since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
This incident marks the second time private security guards have arrested illegal miners within the underground mine area.
Previously, on August 10, 2024, over 30 illegal miners were apprehended by the company’s private security personnel and handed over to the Police.
Additionally, five guards of the company were attacked, resulting in injuries.
Firibu Salia, Mine Manager of Earl International Group Ghana Gold Ltd, expressed concerns in a media interview regarding the persistent invasion of the underground area, which hinders the smooth operation of the company.
According to Salia, this situation poses a significant threat to both the illegal miners and the company’s workers.
He noted that support pillars and concrete slabs constructed to deter illegal miners are frequently blasted and destroyed, allowing unauthorized access to the mine.
