President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Haruna Iddrisu as the Minister- designate for the Ministry of Education.
The nomination for the Tamale Central MP may come as a surprise, as some have speculated he was heading to the Defence Ministry.
But a statement issued by Acting Spokesperson for President Mahama, Feleix kwakye Ofosu, revealed he was heading to the Education Ministry.
With the challenges confronting the sector, particularly the implementation of the free Senior High School policy, the MP is expected to help the President address these challenges.
The nominee is a politician, lawyer, business magnate, and leader with extensive experience in Ghana’s parliament.
He has held roles ranging from deputy ranking member to majority and minority leader in various parliaments under the Fourth Republic.
Haruna Iddrisu has served as Minister for Employment and Labour Relations and Minister for Communications.
Haruna Iddrisu has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Ghana and is also a barrister-at-law and member of the Ghana Bar Association.
