The Electoral Commission (EC) has once again suspended the collation of the parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North constituency following the invasion of its office by some political party supporters.
Some political party supporters on Friday, January 17, 2025, stormed the office of the EC and disrupted the exercise by allegedly causing some damages to doors and louvre blades.
These individuals, numbering over 40, reportedly stormed the venue, ordered everyone to vacate the premises before they started destroying the doors and blades.
It remains unclear why they did that, but the situation has forced the EC to suspend the collation exercise.
Details reaching Rainbowradioonline.com indicate that some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) arrived at the office first before some supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) joined.
Tensions escalated when violence broke out, resulting in broken windows and other damaged property at the collection centre.
The NDC’s Director of Elections for Ablekuma North, Daniel Tornyigah, speaking to the media about the situation, noted that “Before we arrived, the NPP supporters were already there. We couldn’t guarantee our safety with the NPP supporters and their mob. So, when all the commotion started, we felt it was best to withdraw our supporters as well’’.
