The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed disturbing details about their work, particularly in their emergency call rooms.
According to the Service, some people call their emergency lines with ridiculous requests, preventing those who have legitimate concerns from reaching them.
ADO1 Alex Nartey, a member of the GNFS’ communication team, expressed concern about the negative impact of prank calls on fire safety and emergency response.
During an appearance on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that some people call to request that our personnel come and put out fires in their wives’ private areas.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that some men who call to prank them demand phone sex or even masturbate when they discover a female officer on the emergency line.
Mr. Nartey stated, “One of the things that bothers us is prank calls. It’s similar to your mobile phone; if you’re on the phone with someone, you can’t answer another call. That’s what a prank call is. When you visit our emergency room, you’ll be surprised at how many prank calls we get. There are a lot of prank calls, and they are not good. Someone would be in trouble and would require our assistance at the time of the prank. Some people call to tell us that their wives’ private parts are on fire and that we should come and extinguish it. Some call to report that their beards were on fire.
You’ll be surprised by some of the things they call for. Some men call, and when a female answers, they masturbate. When you consider what some people do, it makes no sense.”
