ADO1, Alex King Nartey, a communications team member of the Ghana National Service (GNFS) says the service faces logistical challenges which is hampering its efficiency.
He stated that several of their fire engines are in poor condition, but despite these obstacles, they remain committed to serving Ghanaians and responding to emergencies.
He said that trained officers in the service are willing or prepared to serve the people of Ghana, but they are limited due to a lack of logistical support.
He revealed that the GNFS’ newest fire engine is 14 years old.
ADO1 lamented that several of the engines are over 20 years old, making it difficult for them to respond to fire outbreaks.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline that despite several appeals, they had not received new logistics.
He did, however, commend the previous government for investing in new fire training centres, stating that they were hampered by logistics issues.
”There are several areas that do not have fire stations, including Dome, Kwabenya, Achimota, East Legon and its surroundings, Lapaz, Sowotuom, and others, so we must rely on other fire stations in other locations to deal with outbreaks. Our logistics is also on life support. The GNFS’s newest engine is fourteen years old. Our other fire tenders have been in use for over 24 years. If they were human beings, they would have retired. The fire engine in Konongo has been damaged, so when there is an outbreak, we must deploy an engine from Ejisu,” he explained.
He also revealed that the GNFS lacks lifeboats to conduct rescue missions in flood prone areas.

”We require logistics to improve our effectiveness and efficiency. We require resources. We have filed the appeals. The previous government told us that they had put in place measures to procure new engines and other logistics for us, but this could not be done.”
