Tamale South Member of Parliament, who has been nominated to oversee the Ministry of Education, has revealed that all first-year students in the various public schools will have a refund of their admission fees.
Haruna Iddrisu said following the promise by President Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to roll out its ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative.
The No-Fees-Stress Policy announced by John Mahama represents aims at alleviating the financial burdens faced by first-year tertiary students.
Appearing before the vetting committee on Monday, January 20, 2025, the nominee said the president promised free tuition for students from level 100 who will undertake normal programs at the various public universities.
The number and population for which the country will require about Ghc345 million to execute this initiative.
He said the beauty of this policy is that parents who are still willing to pay the fees of their wards can still go ahead and do so.
He noted that his ministry will work in partnership with the finance ministry to mobilise additional resources for the population of students to benefit, which is estimated at 125,000, adding that every student who has paid will have a refund of his money.
