Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has refuted assertions made by former President Nana Akufo-Addo that his administration constructed 11,000 km of roads.
The nominee who represents the Adaklu constituents in the Volta Region stated categorically that the figure was inaccurate.
The minister-designate said per documents the previous government provided during the transition, the figure that the previous government kept mentioning was false.
He informed the Appointments Committee on Monday, January 20, 2025, that the outgoing government constructed only 673 km of new roads.
The remaining figure he revealed was only re-graveling and graveling.
‘’At the time of the transition, the new roads constructed were 673 km, which is not far from the 617 km we talked about at the time. So that issue is in the record of parliament that indeed Ghana did not construct 11,000 km of new roads since 2017, but rather 673 km have been constructed as new roads. The bulk of the work in the 13,624.25 km is re-graveling and graveling. That is 6,185.90 km.”
