President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
His appointment is not surprising, as some predicted he would be nominated for the position.
If approved by Parliament and sworn in, he would be in charge of managing the ministry and its diplomatic missions abroad, which make up the Ghana Foreign Service, which is responsible for the control, direction, and coordination of Ghana’s external relations.
In addition to diplomatic missions, honorary consulates are established to complement the work of the former in the promotion of investment, trade, and tourism, as well as the discharge of consular functions in areas with significant Ghanaian communities.
His nomination was announced in a statement that was released by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Mr. Ablakwa as Minister will also be responsible for the Ministry which is the principal organ of state responsible administratively and executively for the initiation, formulation, co-ordination and management of Ghana’s Foreign Policy.
Mr. Ablakwa is a proud Ghanaian, a Pan-Africanist, a member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency, the chairman of the Committee on Assurances, and a former deputy minister in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information in Ghana.
