Political analyst Nana Piesie Anto has said the appointments done so far by President John Dramani Mahama are commendable.
He believes the appointments done so far show how committed the president is to appointing competent, diligent, and young professionals to help him manage the country well.
He said the country at this point needed people who were angry for the success of the country and not those whose interest is to come in and steal from the state or use the state to amass wealth.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said President Mahama had been in office before and was voted out and had been elected again.
While in opposition, I am sure he learnt some lessons, and so he is interested in appointing people who will help him execute an agenda to develop the country. So you will realise he gave a specific promise that he will appoint all his cabinet ministers in 14 days after he is sworn in. He has achieved that. When you look at those appointed, they are those who had worked with him before, and he knew the competencies.
President Mahama is not interested in ‘ma try makwe,’ and so he is only appointing young, competent, and dedicated young people with an interest in seeing the country develop.”
The analyst said that with these appointments, we can only hope that the government performs and delivers on the promises they told Ghanaians.
“If you are a leader and you want to succeed, you would have to appoint people who are angry for success and not those who have already made money and yet want public office and use it for their selfish interests. You cannot continue appointing old people without any value to add to your administration.”
He advised those appointed to dedicate themselves to serving in the interest of Ghanaians and avoid acts that will undermine the government or create problems for the leader in charge.
“As an appointee, you have a responsibility to work in the interest of the country. You have to demonstrate to Ghanaians that you can deliver. Ghanaians no longer have patience for leaders of governments that are incompetent. If you fail in discharging your duties, Ghanaians will, especially that, force President Mahama to sack you.”
