President John Dramani Mahama has explained why he scrapped the Information Ministry.
He revealed that the reason to scrap the Information Ministry was part of the reasons for downsizing the government.
He said making that decision meant being strategic in managing the flow of communication from the government, considering how critical it was.
He disclosed that the structure was to bring information into the presidency, and that was how we currently have the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications. He added that the idea will also help them anchor it with a string of strong communications professionals in the most critical sectors who will guarantee as much information flow to the public as possible.
He further revealed that one of the things that remains to be done is to bring the Information Services Department under the presidency and modernise it from a civil service organisation into a modern organisation that guarantees the public’s information flow about whatever the government is doing.
