Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the immediate past Majority Leader and Finance Minister, considers leading the NDC caucus to be his highest honour.
In his final address as outgoing Majority Leader, he thanked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the opportunity to serve as Minority Leader in the Eighth Parliament and as Majority Leader in the Ninth Parliament.
As a human, he admitted to not being perfect and asked for forgiveness if he stepped on others’ toes while working.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson commended his colleague MPs on the side of the NDC for their dedication and contribution to the gains they made, including securing a ”super majority’’ in the ninth parliament and also holding the previous government to account.
He expressed his deepest gratitude to President Mahama for nominating him as the finance minister and the national leadership of the NDC.
‘’Leading the NDC parliamentary caucus has been an honour of the highest order. The unwavering support and the collaboration of colleagues have been privileges I have never taken for granted. Together we have risen above our differences, weathered the storm of transition, and forged a formidable and victorious front. Right Honourable Speaker, we celebrate our collective achievements; let us remain steadfast in our commitment to an even brighter future for our country.
We held the government to account, inspired public confidence, and upheld the values of transparency and service to the people. Our unity of purpose is what delivered the overwhelming and decisive victory for NDC in the 2024 elections. I am not perfect, and yet throughout my tenure, I endeavoured to serve my party and country with unwavering dedication. I acknowledge that in my line of duty, I may have unintentionally stepped on a few toes. To those affected, I humbly seek your forgiveness. Please forgive me. Leadership, I believe, is not about perfection but about the sincerity of purpose.
Dr. Ato Forson also extended his best wishes to the new Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, and his new team of leaders, praying for them to be guided by wisdom as they discharge their duties.
