Mr. Abdul Awal, a socio-political analyst, has urged members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from invading public institutions or engaging in illegal activities because their preferred candidates have been appointed ministers.
He stated that such lawlessness is bad for the country and will undermine Ghanaians’ support for President John Dramani Mahama. He claimed that the NDC and its candidates won not only because NDC members voted for him, but also because several non-NDC Ghanaians voted for him.
The analyst, speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, stated that Ghanaian voters believed the country was heading in the wrong direction and needed to change.
He has thus asked them to behave, stop harassing those appointed, and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Mr. Awal stated that not everyone can be appointed, and President Mahama had promised to appoint only 60 ministers and was required to keep that promise.
He said other personalities who are not affiliated with NDC but are competent to help the country may be appointed to work for the country. He cited the appointment of Dr. Randy Abbey as the Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board as an example to argue his case, stressing that “Randy Abbey was never seen in an NDC party T-shirt to campaign, but he has been appointed as CEO for COCOBOD. He has been appointed because he has what it takes to help manage COCOBOD.
I perceived Randy Abbey as a CPP, but he has been appointed. We should understand that there are people who will be appointed not because of their political affiliations. There are others who these individuals may fight for, and yet, after, they will neglect you. Nobody is above the law, and these acts these party supporters are engaging in are creating disaffection for the government.”He further opined that the NDC failed to put in place post-election measures to avoid these actions and that is why several party members are engaging in the lawlessness.
