President John Dramani Mahama has named Edmond Kombat as the new Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
The new appointee brings extensive experience in the oil and energy sectors to his new position, making him the ideal candidate to steer the refinery back to stability.
Mr. Kombat’s responsibilities include restructuring and modernising the refinery’s operations.
In addition, he is expected to seek private-sector partnerships to secure critical capital and technical expertise for TOR’s revitalisation.
Edmond Kombat is a distinguished lawyer, entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist whose work spans multiple industries. A partner at Bidzakin Kombat Law Firm, Edmond’s legal career is bolstered by an impressive academic background.
He graduated with a First Class Honours degree from the University of Ghana, obtained his LL.B. from the GIMPA Faculty of Law, and earned his BL and QCL qualifications from the Ghana School of Law.
Additionally, he completed the Securities Industry Course with the Ghana Stock Exchange and holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Harvard University, showcasing his commitment to both academic excellence and professional development.
Edmond Kombat’s career trajectory reflects a wealth of experience in finance and energy. He was a financial analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London. He has also served as an energy analyst at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and later as a business and energy analyst at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
His analytical skills and keen understanding of the energy sector were further refined during his tenure as a research assistant at the Mossavar-Rahmani Centre for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School.
In addition to his legal and analytical work, Edmond Kombat has demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial acumen. He is the founder and chairman of the Edkom Group of Companies, a conglomerate that includes Oyster Agribusiness, Citi Energy, Monip Estates, and Kasi Precious Minerals.
Edmond Kombat’s influence extends to the energy sector through his role as Co-Founder and Director of Research and Finance at the Institute for Energy Security (IES).
His work with IES underscores his dedication to advancing energy research, policy advocacy, and financial sustainability within the industry.
