Lawyer for private legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Nana Ato Dadzie, has withdrawn the Facebook post by the activist.
Leading him to appear before the Committee, the lawyer stated that his client withdraws the post profesuley and unreservedly apologise for same.
He noted that they were before the committee to apologise for the misunderstanding.
Oliver Barker-Vormawor was summoned before the Vetting Committee over claims he posted on social media, especially Facebook, regarding the work of the Appointments Committee.
He posted on his official Facebook page saying,’So all the money the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic”.
Chair of the Committee Barnard Ahiafor denied the claims, stating categorically that “I’m ever ready to submit myself to ORAL. We need to stop certain attitudes. So, therefore, I, Benarad Ahiafor, and the chairman of the committee want to place it on record that I and the committee members don’t demand money from any nominees before vetting and approval.”
Appearing today, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, through his lawyer, admitted to the post but indicated that it was meant for a different purpose and not to denigrate the committee.
He denied the public by Ghana Today, which posted and quoted a claim attributed to Barker-Vormawor.
The quote read,’NDC members on the vetting committee take money from Mahama’s ministerial nominee before approving them. The deputy speaker must submit to ORAL.
But Oliver Barker-Vormawor has refuted authoring this, describing it as something that was fabricated.
The quote is attributed to Ghana Today, a news portal that was also shared by NPP Projects Bureau, which has since been deleted on their page.
