Mr. Richard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, has issued a directive to invitees and journalists covering the vetting process to follow instructions and avoid activities that would disrupt the vetting proceedings.
Mr. Ahiafor issued the directive on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in response to complaints about movements that could disrupt the process.
He stated that the movements of the invitees and others were a source of distraction for their work.
He first praised the media for its extensive coverage of the process, but then described some actions that disrupted its activities.
‘’Parliament recognises and appreciates the media for the extensive they have so far given to the Committee and wishes to commend the media for their professionalism since we commenced the public hearing to vet the nominees of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana. However, we must indicate that movements on the floor during proceedings have become a source of distraction to members, and consequently we direct that there should be one: there should be limited movement, especially behind the chairman and the nominee.
Two: Cameras should be positioned not beyond the first part of the table after the seat of the nominee to enable the cameras to capture the nominee but should not interrupt the sitting arrangements nor block the view of members. Three: people using mobile phones to capture proceedings should not move beyond the cameras. Media personnel who are not members of the press corps and who are also not accredited for the coverage of this proceedings will need the express permission of the media relations department to be granted access. Media personnel or other persons who have to move necessarily must make sure they do not cross life cameras or interrupt members who may be on the floor. We urge all to take note and comply with these directives to enable us minimise movements on the floor during the hearing for a smooth running of the proceedings.’’
