The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, has hinted that the Ministry will initiate a validation process to determine the government’s indebtedness to road contractors.
This was communicated through a brief statement posted on the official Facebook page of the ministry.
The minister, according to the statement, has instructed officials from the Ministry, Department of Urban Roads, Department of Feeder Roads, Ghana Highways Authority, and the Road Fund to provide data on all Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) in the system.
The minister held an engagement with road contractors where he made the announcement that there would be a validation process to determine the government’s actual indebtedness to road contractors.
The discussions also focused on decapping the Road Fund, debt sustainability in the road sector, judicious use of scarce resources available to the Ministry, negotiation on payment of interest on delayed payments, and the reintroduction of road tolls to generate more revenue to fund road projects.
