Convener of the Aggrieved Menzgold Customers, Fred Forson, has revealed that several of their members have died as a result of their inability to retrieve their lock-up funds.
He said data available to them shows 235 members have died as a result of the situation.
He stated that out of the 235 members who died, four of them committed suicide due to the pain and pressure they were going through.
The Menzgold saga, he lamented, has caused unbearable pain for them and their families, and they hope that the current government will address the issue.
”Currently, 235 members have died. Three to four of them committed suicide. Several others are sick with various illnesses, strokes, and other medical conditions.
Meanwhile, he said that they want the government to set aside Ghc200 million in the budget for member payments.
He stated that the founder of the defunct Menzgold Company, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1, should be punished for defrauding innocent Ghanaians so that it serves as a deterrent to others.
He confirmed that approximately 11,000 members’ funds have been locked up.
