Afenyo-Markin is asking irrelevant, unnecessary questions and creating problems – Analyst

Socio-political analyst Alex Emmanuel Nti has criticised Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over his approach towards some nominees who come before the Appointments Committee.

He asserted that the minority leader, who is also a ranking member of the committee, is appealing to the base of the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Nyankonton Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he posited that some of the questions asked are just to pursue a political agenda and settle scores.

To him, the minority leader had also made prejudiced comments even before some of the nominees appeared before the committee.

Mr. Emmanuel Nti said the chairman is also not regulating the minority well and allowing them to engage in a pure political agenda against the nominees.

‘’They should stop Afenyo-Markin. Ghana is not for him, and I think he should be stopped. What he is doing is what is causing all the problems. His actions are based on prejudicial actions. He has planned to engage in these dishonourable behaviours.’’

He maintained that the way the MP is conducting himself on the committee is not acceptable, and he must be stopped, saying, “Some of his questions are irrelevant. He should ask questions relevant to the sectors the nominees have been designated for. We asked him and his side to ask questions relevant to the areas the people have been designated to. That was the most important thing to do,’’ he insisted.

Meanwhile, special aide to the minority leader, Dankwa, also known as Lazarus, has slammed the analyst for the way he criticised the MP.

He described his commentary as biased and unfortunate for him to take on the MP in that manner, saying the Minority Leader is discharging his parliamentary duties and cannot be intimidated by anyone.

He said the minority is standing up to the decision by the majority to attack and disrespect them.

‘’We should be reminded that when you appear before the committee, you are vetted not only about your competencies but also about your integrity, candour, and humility, and that is what the minority leader has always done with the nominees, including Sam Nartey George, who appeared before the committee yesterday.’’

’If he is responding in the name of a professional, he should be measured in his remarks. He should not describe the questions by the minority leader as irrelevant and unnecessary. The minority leader is being thorough with the nominees based on the information they submitted before the committee.”
