Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expressed his misgivings about comments made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for making claims that he (Ablakwa) was smuggled in for vetting on Thursday, January 30, 2025, when he had not been scheduled to appear.
The nominee appearing before the committee said he was not happy about the minority leader’s remarks and demanded an apology since that was a reputational matter against him, his wife, and the guests he had officially invited to observe his vetting.
According to him, he received several calls from the media to respond to allegations that he was smuggled in.
‘’I heard myself very clearly the honourable Minority Leader say categorically with equivocation that I was not scheduled to be vetted yesterday, and I smuggled myself in with the help of my majority colleagues. He even brought in my beloved, beautiful, diligent, and celebrated lawyer wife. She also didn’t take it kindly and said that we smuggled ourselves here without invitation and that was the cause for the chaos.’’
The nominee, in setting the record straight, read out a formal invitation letter that was given to him through the Clerk of the Committee.
“I am not some hooligan who will be smuggled into the Appointments Committee’s meeting to be vetted,” he stated.
“We demand an unqualified apology for his acts,” Ablakwa said.
He demanded an apology from the minority leader after his submission, but the chairman admitted that he (Ablakwa) was not smuggled in.
He took responsibility and apologised on behalf of the committee to the nominee and all his guests who were invited.
