Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) will be handing over its report to President John Dramani Mahama for him to decide on the way forward.
The North Member of Parliament told Parliament’s Appointments Committee that they have achieved a lot since they were appointed.
He said it would be up to the President and his Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to determine what to do next with the work done.
‘’The way forward for ORAL is that all the information that had come from patriotic Ghanaians, we will be handing over our report in the next few days to his Excellency the President, the appointor, and then he will decide with his Attorney General on the second phase of ORAL, which is the execution phase, the retrieval phase,’’
He also claimed that Akufo-Addo has been a stronger supporter and promoter of ORAL at the international level, citing his call for colonial masters to return all looted items to their respective colonies.
‘’Many people forget that ORAL has an international dimension. I need not remind our colleagues here that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been an ORAL champion in the international arena. He has been advocating for reparations from our colonial masters, who looted Africa; they should bring it back and return our money and artefacts. So I am so shocked that our friends who started ORAL before President Mahama won the election in the international arena, when they come home, don’t want to hear about ORAL. This is quite remarkable. I would have thought that charity would begin at home. You want the French and the Dutch to return the loot, but back home you want looters to go scot-free… I find it contradictory. So let’s see some consistency.”
