Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, the Country Managing Partner of Auditing firm KPMG, has resigned after President Mahama appointed him as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
His resignation was officially announced by KPMG.
This was stated in a release issued on January 31, 2025 through the firm’s social media page.
The statement from the company said, “As Tony transitions from the firm, we want to assure our clients and stakeholders that KPMG remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering exceptional service and support.’’
The company commended him for his instrumental role in shaping the organisation’s reputation and success.
It further expressed confidence in the strength, talent, and resilience of its team to build upon the firm’s solid foundation and achieve even greater success in the future.
The announcement of the resignation comes at a time when a Ghanaian private citizen has sued President John Dramani Mahama and Mr. Sarpong, describing his appointment as unlawful.
President John Dramani Mahama on January 21, 2025, appointed Anthony Sarpong as the acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The letter announcing his appointment said, “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with 195 (1) of the Constitution and Section 13 (1) of the Ghana Revenue Act, 2009 (Act 791), has appointed you as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the government Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission”.
