The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns over the appointment of Dr. Johnson Asiamah as Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
The caucus is worried that although the appointment of the Governor was pending the approval of the Council of State, the appointee has already resumed work.
The Minority posited that it is concerning that the appointee, ”who has merely been nominated and whose appointment is still pending approval by the Council of State, has taken on the responsibilities of the office in the absence of such approval. This raises serious procedural and constitutional concerns, particularly given that the Council of State has not yet been constituted”.
The statement issued by Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin asked for Asiamah to be refrained from engaging in official duties at the Bank of Ghana until his nomination has been duly approved by the Council of State.
