The Minority in Parliament has stated that it will not participate in the parliamentary approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as the Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs.
The Leader of the Caucus, speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, announced that his side will abstain from the voice vote, just as they did with Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations.
In his remarks, the Leader emphasized that the nominee’s actions, including his rented apartment at Airport Hills, will be the responsibility of the Majority.
He urged the Majority to utilize their numbers in approving the nominee.
In a symbolic gesture, the Minority Leader requested water, washed his hands, and then cleaned them, signifying that his party does not endorse the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu.
He stressed that the nominee, who had previously held others accountable, has not been truthful about his assets.
He questioned how the nominee could afford to rent an apartment at Airport Hills, which is paid for in dollars, on his monthly salary of Ghc15,000.
