The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have informed the Ghanaian public that the West African Gas Pipeline (WAPCo) has commenced its planned maintenance work.
The maintenance work will be on the gas pipeline from Nigeria to Ghana and will be carried out from today, February 5, 2025, to March 2, 2025.
Due to maintenance, gas supply to Tema thermal plants from Nigeria, as well as gas transportation via reverse flow from Takoradi to Tema, will be curtailed.
This will allow for pipeline cleaning (also known as pigging) and the replacement of some subsea equipment.
‘’To minimise the impact on power supply in the country, stakeholders in the energy sector, led by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, have procured volumes of liquid fuel for some generating plants in Tema that have the capacity to operate on alternative fuel to enable them to remain in operation during the period of the ‘Pigging’.
