Political analyst Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has disagreed with suggestions that the deputy ministerial positions ought to be scrapped.
He argued that the deputy ministerial positions are valuable and must be maintained.
He, however, suggested that some of the ministries can be merged for the deputy minister to be in charge of different ministries.
He made those remarks while speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
“The deputy ministerial role is important, and it could be possible that if the minister is unable to function, the deputy minister can be made to take over that position. I will also suggest that to save money, we can merge some ministries and put a deputy minister in charge. So, for example, we can structure it in a way that someone who is a deputy minister for Works and Housing can also deputise Public Works. But to suggest that the deputy ministerial positions be scrapped is not the best.”
He was also of the view that the deputy ministerial positions of well-structured will go a long way in shaping the development of the country.
He stressed the need for the deputy ministers to be made to take over directly from the substantive ministers when they are unable to perform their functions.
