Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he told host Kwabena Agyapong that the Governing Council and Dirtectors reached a unanimous decision in changing the name as part of its strategic move to focus on a mindset transformation agenda.
He was, however, quick to add that one other major reason for the name change was to prevent the litigation over the use of the name of the late John Evans Atta Mills, especially championed by his brother and some others who had attacked and vilified him.
He said, ‘To be honest, we want to move forward without any obstacles. It is well known that in the last two to three years, President Mills’ brothers, and more recently, his son, have joined them in antagonising me. The level of animosity was unhealthy, so the Governing Council made the decision to change the name. Give them their names, but we will continue to pursue the late President Mills’ ideals, and they will be unable to stop us.
He claimed that the late Mills had a covenant with him, and that he (Anyidoho) did the same, “and so I cannot stop eulogising him and discussing his ideals and ideologies.” If we’re talking about mindset transformation, I should change my own mindset. I should be able to change my own mindset because I can’t teach what I don’t know”
He stressed that ‘’the new MILLS is an acronym of the new name that the Atta-Mills Institute was set up as a Mindset Transformation Public Policy Advocacy Think Tank, but for good reason, focused on building the legacy of the late President Atta-Mills via two monuments: Asomdwe Park and a Memorial Library at Ekumfi Otuam, adding that with the change of name, the MILLS Institute is now anchored solely to the original purpose of Mindset Development/Transformation for nation building.
”The Governing Council and Directors have decided that we have done well and will continue to speak about the late Mills, but let us change the nomenclature so that no one can come and attack us. So, the MILLS we are using is an acronym for Mindset, Integrity, Loyalty, Leadership, and Service Institute and not a name for anybody.”
The former director of communication for the presidency under the late Atta Mills insisted that the Mills factor is still present, but we are doing it without the family name. So we gave the family their name back and thanked them. We don’t want any more obstacles. So that’s what we’re doing now.
