He officially assumed office, succeeding outgoing Registrar Henrietta Lamptey, during a brief handover ceremony held at the National Association of Local Authorities Ghana (NALAG).

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Botchway reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively with the Registry’s staff to advance President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a robust and efficient birth and death registry.

“I am here on a mission—to fulfil President Mahama’s vision of building a strong and efficient birth and death registry that delivers unparalleled service to Ghanaians both at home and abroad. Achieving this goal requires teamwork and cooperation among management and staff,” he stated.

He also urged employees to maintain professionalism and neutrality in their work, cautioning against political affiliations that could hinder the Registry’s success.

As part of his priorities, Mr. Botchway emphasised his dedication to enhancing employee welfare and ensuring continuity in ongoing projects initiated by his predecessor.

In her farewell remarks, Henrietta Lamptey assured the new registrar of her unwavering support and availability for consultation whenever needed.

With a strong background in public service and community development, Samuel Adom Botchway brings valuable expertise in economics, strategic management, and leadership to his new role.

Additionally, his multilingual abilities further position him to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.

His appointment aligns with Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution and Section Two of the Registration of Birth and Death Act 2020 (Act 1027), which mandates the President to appoint a Registrar responsible for overseeing the Registry’s operations.

As Acting Registrar, Mr. Botchway will manage the Registry’s daily administration and maintain the national records of births, foetal deaths, and deaths.
