The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Global Intelligence and Security Analysis Centre has advised President John Dramani Mahama to deal with his party members who are engaging in lawlessness so that he does not create a situation that will harm him in the future.
Mr. Samuel Nana Appiah stated that thugs affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have engaged in lawlessness should not be let off the hook because doing so may encourage others to do the same.
The analyst said that it is unacceptable for people to disrupt elections or engage in election and post-election violence without facing consequences.
He was responding to the violence that marred the Ashanti region’s Council of State election.
He advised political parties to exercise caution and ensure that their members do not engage in these illegal activities.
“Political parties, particularly the ruling NDC, must exercise caution and refrain from engaging in activities that jeopardise state security. They should first prioritise national security and consider the legacy they will leave behind. They must respect authority, state security, and other legal institutions that work for the country. The flagrant disregard for the ale and impunity has reached a tipping point. If these issues are not resolved by the first year of Mahama’s administration, he will face difficulties because his supporters will be emboldened to break the law.”
He added that it is unacceptable for people to disrupt elections or engage in election and post-election violence without facing consequences.
He warned that if the ruling government fails to deal with the violence involving NDC members, they will resort to violent means to make their demands.
”They will begin misbehaving and making demands on the government. They may hold demonstrations and demand that ministers be reshuffled so that others have the opportunity to serve. So President John Dramani Mahama must be guided and deal with these illegal activities. He should allow our security agencies to prosecute these individuals. The way these things are acting is not good for the country and poses a threat to national security.”
