Samuel Nana Appiah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Intelligence and Security Analysis Centre, says it was most disgraceful, the violence that characterised the Council of State elections.
He stated that it makes no sense that the elections have been politicised.Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the analyst said, “It is now becoming a norm that every election in this country has been heavily politicised. It is unfortunate that all our elections have taken very strong partisan political dimensions.
The Council of State elections should not be violent. Only about 80 voters participated in Kumasi, so if we vote in an election with fewer than 100 people, there should be no violence.”
He also took on the Ghana Police Service for failing to maintain law and order and allowing things to disrupt the process in Kumasi.
“There were enough officers on the scene, so allowing these goons to disturb the process was regrettable. The other issue is that some people are committing these illegal acts since they know they will not be penalised. That is a huge challenge we must address. If we don’t prosecute or punish lawbreakers These lawless people act in this way because they know the police will not arrest and prosecute them. It was past time we dealt harshly with these people to act as a deterrent to others.”
