Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, has warned illegal miners that this administration will deal with them severely.
Speaking during his first official visit to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Minister Murtala Mohammed said the government led by President John Dramani Mahama has declared its stance against illegal mining and that will not be compromised.
He cautioned those involved to desist and that they will come after them, whether in government or in opposition.
The minister also underscored the need for collaboration between his ministry and other relevant stakeholders in dealing with the canker.
He said the president has given him his authority to deal with galamsey, and because of that, he will stay focused on doing that.
“We are going to walk the talk. It doesn’t matter who is engaged in galamsey activities. Whether you are from the New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as long as the President has given us the absolute authority to deal with those who are violating our laws as far as sustaining our environment, we will have to do that,” he said.
