Former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has criticised the current Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for failing to inform President Mahama and his Cabinet before withdrawing the high-profile cases involving some senior officials of government.

He slammed Dr. Ayine for his action, opining that the reasons he assigned for withdrawing the cases were flawed.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on February 14, 2025, the former AG said Ghanaians should be scared of the current AG’s move to sidestep the president in such a critical decision.

“Even more scary and bizarre is the claim of Dr. Ayine that he did not consult the former president, John Dramani Mahama, before taking the monumental decision to discontinue the criminal cases. The cases involved the loss of colossal sums of taxpayers’ money and some related to the banking sector crisis, which affected the Ghanaian economy.

“The people of Ghana should indeed be extremely concerned and afraid by the vesting of prosecutorial authority in a person who can discontinue the prosecution of such important and high-profile cases without discussing them with the President of the Republic and members of the Cabinet. Even defence counsel he consulted, how much more the President?
