The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has, through an Executive Instrument, imposed a curfew on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region.
The curfew, which was imposed on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, will be from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The Minister in the statement admonished the chiefs and elders, opinion leaders, and the youth to avoid using violent means in addressing any challenge.
Additionally, all residents have been barred from carrying arms, ammunition, and any other offensive weapons.The Minister warned persons who violate the directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted, “the statement read.
