Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a former spokesperson on governance and security for former President Akufo-Addo, has revealed that some persons have threatened to kill him for criticising the unlawful invasion of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mr. Boakye-Danquah said the raid, which Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has apologised for, was a traumatising experience for Ken Ofori-Atta and his family.
He posited that when a new government takes over, it should not abuse its powers in intimidating the appointees of the previous administration.
He said as a sovereign state, we have over the years held elections, and governments have been changed by the law, but in the change of government, the new one should not use the security agencies to engage in unlawful activities.
Speaking in an interview with Sir Richie on ‘As it is in Ghana’s on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, he revealed that some comments he made about the Bawku crisis and the Ken Ofori-Atta issue have caused some faceless persons to send him threats to kill him.
According to him, these individuals claim to know his residence, where his family resides, and so will come at him and kill him.
“I have been intimidated by some people because of comments I made concerning the Bawku incident and the invasion of Ofori-Atta’s residence. They have threatened to kill me. They said they were going to cut off my head. They told me that they knew where I live, where my children go to school, and where my wife lives, therefore they will kill me.”
Boakye-Danquah stated that these threats were levelled at him as a result of comments he made in the interest of national progress.
On the Ken Ofori-Atta saga, he said the former minister could not have done anything without express instruction from the president.
He said even if the former minister had done something wrong, it was not proper to send security personnel to raid his house.
He indicated that some have tried to justify this by comparing it to what happened to some NDC officials when the NPP won in 2017, “but those who went to the houses of the NDC officials had a search warrant. In the case of Ken Ofori-Atta, they invaded the house. They had no search warrant. He is out of the country and seeking medical care. If he been at home at the time of the invasion, you would have seen how horribly he would have been handled.
He wondered why the former minister, who had been a successful private individual who served and sacrificed for his country, would be treated in this disrespectful manner.
Palgrave Boakye-Danquah went on to state that it was also unfortunate that Richard Djakpa, a man who was dishonourably discharged from the military, led the team with a gun, and invaded the residence of the former minister.
He also revealed to the host that after the elections, he had to flee from Ghana because some individuals threatened his life.
“After the December elections, and I realised we had lost, I had to flee the country because some individuals were targeted to harm me, all because I was a spokesperson for former President Akufo-Addo and was speaking on radio and television. People who did not align the NPP intended to hurt me. I cannot confirm that they were all NDC. “I had to protect myself.”
