The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its wanted persons list.
The OSP, in a statement issued today, February 18, 2025, said the name of the former minister was removed after his legal team communicated his scheduled return to Ghana in May 2025.
According to the OSP, the former minister would return to Ghana on a specified date in May.
It added that lawyers for Ofori-Atta assured the OSP that Ofori-Atta is fully committed to cooperating with the investigation upon his return.
The OSP on Monday, February 17, 2025, declared Ofori-Atta wanted and appealed to Ghanaians to support the office to apprehend him.
The OSP in the reasons assigned for declaring Ofori-Atta is for him to answer charges in respect of several cases, including Strategic Mobilisation-GRA Contract, Termination of ECG-BXC Contract, National Cathedral Payments, Ambulance Procurement Contract, and Tax Refund Account Utilisation.
The OSP last week declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive running from justice.
Kissi Agyebeng, the special prosecutor, told journalists that “Mr. Ofori-Atta, 66, who served as finance minister from 2017 to 2024, is implicated in multiple cases, including questionable contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, as well as alleged corruption regarding the National Cathedral project and the purchase of ambulances for the National Ambulance Service. Despite an offer from his legal team to cooperate remotely, the OSP demanded Ofori-Atta’s physical return to Ghana.Following his failure to respond by the stipulated deadline, the OSP escalated the matter, announcing Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive.
