Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, has advocated for effective policies to address sanitation challenges in Ghana.
Commenting on a statement read by the Ahanta West MP, Mavis Kuukua Bissue, he emphasized the need for a multi-faceted approach involving government, NGOs, communities, and companies.
According to him, increasing access to sanitation and toilet facilities is crucial to reducing open defecation.
He called for increased access to sanitation and toilet facilities, urging governments, NGOs, and companies to collaborate in providing more sanitation facilities, especially in rural and underserved areas.
He also stressed the importance of improving solid waste management, calling for the provision of adequate waste disposal containers and ensuring regular waste collection services.
Hon. Kumi further emphasised the significance of community-mindedness in addressing waste management issues. He encouraged individuals to look beyond their own circumstances and consider the broader community’s needs.
“By promoting a sense of communal responsibility, he believes that people will be more inclined to participate in community-led initiatives to address waste management challenges. This collective approach can help ensure that everyone contributes to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, regardless of their individual circumstances.”
