Private legal practitioner Kwaku Asare, commonly known as Kwaku Azar, has reacted to the bail granted to Gregory Afoko after being in detention for ten years.
The lawyer and accounting professor expressed his excitement but questioned why this took so long.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Asare lamented that our courts have become tools of political power instead of being the guradians pof the law.
He argued that bail must be granted on merit and not on political considerations of the identity of the government in power.
He wrote on his page and in an interaction with followers saying,’Court grants Afoko bail after 10 years remand. What changed? The facts, the law, or the politics?
He added,’ Very glad to see him released. But what a sad commentary on our justice system. The courts risk becoming tools of political power rather than guardians of law. Bail must be based on legal merit, not political considerations or the identity of the government in power!’’
