The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) has withdrawn itself from the ongoing strike initiated by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
CLOGSAG declared a strike action on February 20, 2025, over the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
The association claimed the appointee was a politically exposed individual.
They asked the government to withdraw his appointment, or they will embark on a nationwide strike.
However, in a statement issued on Friday, February 21, 2025, the LGSWU reiterated its decision not to participate in the strike, citing an ongoing legal case relating to the problem.
“For these reasons and upon further consultations by the National Management Committee with all the regional councils, the Local Government Service Workers’ Union has taken a unanimous decision not to join the strike action.”
