Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, was released after being held by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

His lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, has told the media that his client is being probed for activities during his time at GIIF.

According to the lawyer, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested on Sunday morning by a group of men in three pickup trucks at his private property.

He said, the client accompanied these men to the NIB headquarters and was then transferred to the NIB offices in Kawukudi, Accra.

He stated that the enquiries are focused on financial transactions.

“The interrogation has concluded, and the NIB has informed them that Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi will be kept in custody until tomorrow [Monday]. However, there may be further developments later in the evening, and his legal team remains on-site, awaiting any updates.

“We are still here, hanging around, waiting to see whether anything else can be done. He’s not been transported from here to where he will be sleeping overnight. So we are inside here waiting to see what will happen before we leave,” he added.
