The Deputy Education Minister-Designate, Dr. Clement Apaak, has disclosed that the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will return to its original structure.
The nominee, who is also the Builsa South Member of Parliament, disclosed this when he appeared before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
Dr. Apaak argued that returning the PTA to its original structure will foster stronger collaboration between parents and teachers, thereby enhancing the quality of education nationwide.
The former lecturer at the University of Ghana assured the Ghanaian public that restoring PTA to its original structure will allow parents to contribute to the resolution of education sector challenges such as infrastructure deficits, student discipline, and academic performance.
He was optimistic that this would help the government create a more inclusive system in which all stakeholders collaborate to ensure quality education for all students.
“We all know the roles PTAs play. PTAs have contributed to infrastructure and procured furniture for schools. I strongly believe that the benefits of PTAs justify the decision by the current government to reinstate them to where they used to be. PTAs, as we knew them up until now, were jettisoned. The decision communicated was that we were not going to have PTAs.”
He also denied that the current administration wants to cancel the free Senior High School policy, insisting that the policy is good but fraught with problems, and that the government’s interest is to address the problems and improve the policy.
