The Deputy Minister-Designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Sampson Ahi, has announced plans to establish a cocoa processing company in the Western North region if approved.
The nominee pledged to ensure that the factory is built by the end of his tenure.
He stated this when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, 2025.
He opined that industrialisation plays a key role in driving economic growth and job creation, particularly in agricultural enclaves.
He noted that if the factory is successfully constructed and commissioned, it will align with the government’s broader agenda to boost local production, add value to raw materials, and create employment opportunities.
“As captured in the NDC manifesto, we will embark on industralisation. I will be happy to see that by the end of my tenure, we will have a cocoa processing company so that we will have cocoa beans processed. I will also look at other areas where they have a competitive advantage with regards to farm produce so that many factories can be established for many of the farm produce to be processed,” he added.
